Counselling
Counselling with The Oxfordshire Befriending Network
What is counselling or psychotherapy?
Counselling or psychotherapy provide an opportunity to reflect on your life experiences in depth.
The counsellor/therapist is skilled in guiding people to gaining a greater understanding of the patterns and meaning of life.
Counselling also provides emotional support in facing difficult life choices and life changes. Psychotherapy is much the same as counselling. The training may be lengthier with a specific methodology. Ask your worker about their background and approach.
Who are the Oxfordshire Befriending Network counsellors and psychotherapists?
We provide both qualified and student psychotherapists and counsellors who are training with Nationally accredited training organisations.
They go through a thorough induction process with OBN to ensure they are tuned in with the ethos and the special needs of our client groups. We monitor the work through monthly support group meetings.
Where does counselling take place?
We have a number of different practice rooms available across the county.
Those in hospital, hospice or house bound can be seen in those settings.
Confidentiality
Counselling and psychotherapy sessions are confidential, though the contents of sessions must be shared with the practitioner's supervisor, to ensure quality of service.
Practitioners are bound by their professional practice and ethical codes and by the law of the land. These may occasionaly come into conflict with your rights to confidentiality on some matters. Your counsellor or therapist will explore this in making a contract of work with you.
Who can access counselling and psychotherapy?
This is available to befriending partners, their close friends and family.
Anyone who is suffering from a life-threatening illness can access these services, which are free.
Counselling is also available through a period bereavement.
Cost
The services are free. You may be asked to help with travel expenses if the counsellor/therapist has a long journey to see you at home.
